Retooling Workshop conducted to strengthen Caceres News

The Caceres Commission on Communications (CCCom), through its official digital news platform, Caceres News, conducted a retooling workshop themed “Sharpening Our Mission, Strengthening Our Stories.” The activity gathered 16 Social Communications Ministry volunteers and parish bulletin writers from across the Archdiocese of Caceres at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary on Saturday, August 8.

In his talk on the mission of Caceres News, CCCom Director Fr. Francis Tordilla emphasized the importance of journalism in the digital age in showing the people a wider perspective of what is happening in local church, particularly in parish communities. He also emphasized the need for more witnesses, who  can share and communicate Christ amid advances in modern technology and the rise of artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, Ms. Lilette Manauis, head of Caceres News, gave an orientation on the Caceres News Stylebook and how storytelling is done in Caceres News. The handbook provides a uniform and organized guide for writers as they create articles for publication on the Archdiocese’s Facebook page and official website.

Ms. Jonnah Abellano, Dr. Natalie Quimlat, and Mr. Michael Multo led breakout sessions on news writing, feature writing, and photojournalism. In the afternoon, the facilitators conducted workshops to develop the participants’ skills and strengthen their capacity as communicators.

Following the activity, the participants will serve as correspondents and writers for Caceres News in response to the call of the Church to evangelize and become “communicators of truth.”
