Faith Stories
Greg S. Castilla

In Seattle, the devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia was started by the late Francisco and Esperanza Macandog in 1977 to fulfill a vow for the healing of Esperanza's ailment. Through the guidance of Fr. Felino S. Paulino, a Bikolano priest, the image of Ina was enshrined at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Seattle in September 2007. Today, Our Lady has become a unifying anchor of Bikolano-American families in the area. Their devotion to Ina continues to be strong. Nothing has really changed as far as the Bikolanos are concerned. Wherever they are, they always find ways to honor their Mother, their love for Ina never waning.
